Economy on Wheels. Fast changes, slow structures. The central question during the HVTT15 is how to integrate fast technological and socio-economic developments that affects road freight transport in existing structures: ageing infrastructure, historical grown cities, established market structures and social order and ingrained habits. The aim is to adapt the road freight transport system to an increasing social and economic complexity, against technological opportunities, and with significant safety and environmental constraints.
The HVTT15 in Rotterdam expects delegates from all six continents, with over 70 papers presented in three parallel sessions. Advanced communication means will be used to enhance the interaction between the delegates. Interesting key note speakers and panel discussions at plenary sessions will highlight road freight transport developments and trends. In addition, the HVTT15 offers a stage for research institutes, governmental bodies and multilateral organizations to present and expose ‘work in progress’ such as draft presentations of international research projects, special student activities and exhibitions, and relevant formal agreements events.
Rotterdam is a modern city, with transport in her DNA. Rotterdam is the gateway to Europe, a highly technologically advanced port covering 12,500 hectares, extending over 40 km landward, with an annual turnover of 465 Million Ton cargo tonnage, being the equivalent of almost one averagely loaded heavy vehicle combination per second. Rotterdam is a dynamic and cultural city, with a lively centre, modern architecture, excellent connections to all major sights of interest in The Netherlands and Europe.
We are looking forward to meet you in Rotterdam, in October 2018.
On behalf of the organising committee,
Vice-president Europe IFRTT, general chair HVTT15
